Kings Health partners BRC Summer School

The SaIL centre was delighted to host the Kings Health Partners BRC Summer School for another year. This fantastic programme enables young people to experience what it would be like working within a clinical setting in a hospital. Our participants; or helpers, as we like to call them were introduced to different simulated environments, such as an operating theatre and a home environment, which enabled our helpers to feel fully immersed in the day. Our helpers attempted simulated Laparoscopic Surgery using our LapSkills Trainers and also helped to deliver a baby during a simulated labour scenario. Our helpers applied for the programme because they wished to learn more about a career in science/medicine. The day was a fun filled learning experience for all involved and we were delighted to receive some wonderful feedback from our helpers:

“I enjoyed the experience at the summer school overall however, my favourite part of the course would have to be the simulation at the SAIL centre – this is because it was the most interactive part of the week and allowed me to have an insight of what working in the field of medicine would be like. The week allowed me to become confident in choosing medicine as a career pathway as I really enjoy all aspects of it.”
