Improving Safety in the Hospital Birth Centre

Nature of Course: Open to internal and external attendees

Course Director: Dr Sarah MacDonald, Lead for Obstetric Anaesthetic simulation


Trainees are introduced to the simulation environment and take part in several clinical scenarios.

Each scenario is followed by a debriefing session where participants can reflect on their own and the group’s performance under guidance from experienced facilitators.


The course aims to improve the safety of mothers and babies in the hospital birth centre. It focuses on the non-technical skills required to perform effectively individually and as a team member in a complex, clinical environment.


This one day course suitable for all grades of anaesthetists who cover the labour ward.
