Managing Emergencies in Paediatric Anaesthesia (MEPA)

Outline:
MEPA is a national paediatric simulation course that helps anaesthetic trainees to manage paediatric anaesthesia emergencies.
The course introduces non-technical skills (NTS) in paediatric anaesthesia and puts knowledge into practice through simulation scenarios.
After an introduction to simulation attendees are given a familiarisation session of the high fidelity simulation room and the baby manikins.
The course looks at current practice in paediatric anaesthesia and, through participation in the simulated clinical scenarios, attendees’ technical and clinical management decisions are challenged.
Each scenario is followed by a debriefing session reflecting on the team’s performance.
