Nature of Course: Lead Provider ST1/ST3/Paediatric Nurses – Full Immersion Simulation Course
Course Director: Dr Marilyn McDougall, Paediatric Intensive Care Consultant
Aim:
The course is mapped to the paediatric curriculum and will provide candidates with a framework to:
- Manage a wide range of paediatric emergencies
- Identify and manage neonatal emergencies
- Facilitate good teamwork in critical scenarios
Outline:
- This one day course is delivered in simulation centres with excellent facilities for high fidelity simulation
- Places are limited to optimize learning opportunities and allow all candidates to participate in scenarios
- Multidisciplinary team working will be developed using common and important neonatal and paediatric emergency scenarios
- Scenarios and debriefing will focus on Human Factors as well as clinical knowledge and technical skills
- Candidates will gain an improved understanding of crisis resource management and its application in paediatrics
